FAQ's

In answer to the variety of questions we have been asked along the way, please find following a series of questions and answers to assist you. If your question and answer is not listed below, please do not hesitate to contact the CocoRepublic DesignSchool at designschool@cocorepublic.com.au or on 1300 323 171.

01

Is there any order in which to do the courses?

No. Each course is designed to be independent of each other, meaning you can do one or more than one course according to the timetable that best suits you. Each course has a slightly different focus, appealing to those who are considering a career change, wanting to explore further study, or those simply wanting to do it for themselves.

Where there is a pre-requisite for prior training, this will be noted on the course outline.

02

I have never done any design training – will I be OK?

You certainly will be! Each of our courses start with some basic training in the elements and principles of design, which is the perfect way for any novice to begin to understand design and the decorators intent when coming up with an interior scheme. For those who are more advanced, this is great re-enforcement of the basics and creative concept thinking.

03

When are the classes held?

The best place to find the course timetable is right here on the website. Click on the ‘Timetable’ tab on the left hand side of the screen for the latest information.

04

How do I apply?

There are two ways you can apply for a course at the Coco Republic Design School. Firstly, you can apply and pay online with a credit card, by simply clicking onto the ‘Online Registration & Payment’ tab on the left hand side of the page. Please note that this facility only takes full payment for the course. If you would prefer to pay a deposit now, simply click on to the ‘Application form’ tab and download the Application Form. Fill out the Application Form and scan/email or mail your completed form to the Coco Republic Design School. A confirmation of your place in the course will be emailed to you with a copy of your receipt.

05

How many people in a class?

Our two studios are set up for a maximum of 18 students. In most classes we will have no more than 17 students.

06

What if I don’t live in Sydney?

Join us for one of our Accelerator courses. Over the year, we will be running a few of our courses in an ‘accelerator’ format, being essentially the same course as noted with the same unit accreditation, but in a condensed 1 full week format, from Monday morning through to Saturday afternoon. This format is also appealing to locals who are keen to fast-track their decoration studies.

07

Do we break for school holidays?

The courses run for 15 weeks straight, regardless of any school holidays. Students taking classes on a Saturday will have a break over the key holiday events such as Easter Saturday and some long weekends. Please enquire with the Coco Republic Design School.

08

Is there any homework?

With the courses that have unit accreditation from TAFE NSW, you will be expected to do a nominal amount of project homework. As a guide, you can expect 3 hours of homework for a 3 hour class session.

09

What if I can’t draw?

The drawing component of the classes is based around basic technical drafting skills, so if you can hold a pencil and a ruler and draw a straight line, you will be fine! The rendering, or ‘colouring-in’ classes, will help turn your technically drawn interior into a decoration masterpiece.

10

What if I miss a week, or two, am I able to catch it up?

The notes for each course are quite detailed and explanatory, and will be issued to you throughout your course. You can always turn up to the next class, and as the class is doing their project work, ask your teacher for any assistance with anything in the notes that requires further explanation. If you would like one of the teachers to take you through the notes at a time outside of class time, please contact the Coco Republic Design School with your request by email at: designschool@cocorepublic.com.au.

11

Will I get a job once I finish the course?

Each person is different, bringing with them a variety of educational and life skills that will compliment their decoration studies. For example, if your career path to date has been in sales, the first step may be to consider a role as a salesperson in a designer showroom, where your decoration skills can be utilised to assist clients in choosing the right product, in the right pattern and colour, for their purpose.

As we have our students in class for a total of 45 hours, some might find that is enough to take that first step into the industry, or others may decide that further in-depth study of a Diploma or Degree may be in order.

At the Coco Republic Design School, we aim to give you a good understanding of the industry, introduce you to numerous industry experts and our teachers will be there to guide you in to suggesting areas of the decoration industry that may assist you in starting your new career. And once you join us, you become a valuable member of the Coco Republic Design School community, offering networking opportunities ongoing and into the future.
