What's On

Colour Trends- Back to Nature

A huge trend coming out of the Dulux Colour forecast for 2012 is a more simplistic approach to our interiors, think ‘raw’ inspired by natures best.

“In an era characterised by choice, simplicity is the new luxury. The raw palette is symbolised by natural colours; untreated woods,rusted earthy tones, colours which bring the natural landscape inside, seamlessly blending with the environment.  The raw palette reflects items in their most untouched state; earthy, neutral and very calming to the harried soul. Think of pure wools, silks and organic cottons, untreated woods, native grasses and food in its most purest form. “
Andrea Lucena-Orr, International Colour Forecaster for Dulux.

Sydney based stylist Jo Carmichael states; “No more shiny laminates or surfaces, the raw palette is all about the environment, a comfortably livable environment that will is easy to adapt to Australian homes”.

Annamaria Di Cara, teacher at Design Centre Enmore and Coco Republic Design School, feels this organic palette can be seen not just in paints but in fashion, furniture and homeware design;

“The past couple of years the trend toward reinterpreting traditional handcrafts and artisan techniques has found expression through fashion, furniture and homeware design and will continue to influence the use of colours inspired by elements of the natural environment.”
