Winner: House & Garden Top 50 Rooms

Announced this week as a finalist for House and Garden’s annual Top 50 Rooms and awarded the coveted Best Use of Soft Furnishings, I am thrilled to share with you one of my favourite projects completed this year.

Set in Mosman on Sydney’s Lower North Shore is this captivating four bedroom home with expansive water views over Long Bay and beyond. Senior Interior Designer Jodie Kingman and I loved working on the contemporary scheme, which focused on the sophisticated and elegant use of colour, texture and social layout – all whilst keeping their son, daughter and pets in mind.

Crucial to the success of this project was understanding our client’s personalities, how they entertained, how they relaxed and simply finding out what got them excited!  The client’s contribution of their own tastes and trust in the direction of the scheme resulted in a home that we are certainly very proud of.

As the home was destined for frequent entertaining of family and friends, we chose refined yet functional furnishings that complemented the serene natural landscape. Ambiance and warmth was really important so that the family felt at home.

A complete kitchen renovation, new feature lighting and joinery were introduced to enhance the open plan layout. Natural textures such as timber, leather and soft fabrics contrast with luxurious accents of antiqued gold, brass, faux shagreen and faux tortoise shell.

For the winning Master Bedroom, our brief was to invoke a boutique hotel feel.   Layering textures in inky aubergine colours and adding finer details such as antique brass studding in the headboard achieved this. The hero was a striking wallpaper design by Seneca Elitis, which provided the perfect starting point for the overall scheme.  An upholstered headboard, silk wool blend floor rug, throw blanket and cushions all play a part in pulling the scheme together.  The bedside tables were custom made especially for this bedroom and we added the Diego Bench from Oly to complete the room.
