Invest In You: About The Design School

There has never been a better time to invest in you.

Have you thought about a short course in interior decoration or styling? Don’t put it off – the Coco Republic Design School has 15% off all courses until the end of January or 20% off two or more courses.

I spoke with Shelley Warrington, Head Of Design School for Coco Republic who shares some stats and insights into the students studying with us and what they go on to do.

When was the School founded?

We launched in 2009 and we continue to grow and add more courses to enhance our students’ design capabilities.

Are on campus or online courses more popular?

We’re finding that an increasing number of students are studying on campus, to the point where 90% of enrolments are for one of our Sydney or Melbourne held courses. People love the tangible nature of building presentation boards for practical experience.

Where are classes held?

The Design School is within the Coco Republic Design Centre in Alexandria, Sydney and we have a pop up in South Melbourne where we run Interior Decoration 5.5 courses twice a year.

Where are your students from?

People travel from all over Australia and New Zealand to attend our Sydney courses. We have those that drive in from areas nearby like Canberra, Southern Highlands, Central Coast and Newcastle. We are actually seeing higher numbers make a trip of it – flying in from other Australian cities or New Zealand to do a one week course with a little sightseeing time on either end.

For our online courses, we have students from all over the world such as Asia and South America.

What are the most popular courses?

The most popular courses are:

1) Interior Decoration Essentials 101 with options of studying 5.5 day, 7 week or online

2) 3 day Mastering Colour Schemes on campus course

3) 1 day Masterclass in Interior Decoration on campus course

We have seen some of these courses sell out well in advance.

What attracts students to study with Coco Republic?

They are attracted by the Coco Republic reputation for creating breathtaking interiors and knowing that they are studying with a market leader in design, styling and retail industry with a reputation for excellence. The partnership with Design Centre Enmore TAFE NSW can also be an attractive reason. Students can attend accredited short courses of up to 7 weeks, fitting perfectly into work, travel and lifestyle too.

Then, word of mouth from previous students who have loved our courses is also a driving factor.

Do students go into the field of design and styling?

Absolutely. Coco Republic has employed several alumni of the Design School in positions such as Property Stylist and Design Consultant and a number of our students have taken their design expertise into our Head Office in creative roles. Our students are also offered work experience opportunities on magazine photoshoots, learning in the field from some of our industry’s best editorial stylists.
