Flinders House by Canny Architecture

It’s not often that you come across a farmhouse that exudes rich, moody sophistication. But Flinders House in Victoria does it well.

A bespoke renovation by Canny Architecture has transformed this former traditional Australian farmhouse into a contemporary delight with interiors that defy traditional country style.

The dark façade of the exterior is undeniably beautiful, contrasting against vibrant greens of the manicured gardens that surround the property. The exterior architecture is just a taste of what is to come indoors.

A palette of black, beige and charcoal makes for a cosy and chic interior in this contemporary Victorian farmhouse. In the open plan living, dining and kitchen, subtle touches of leather, light timbers and copper are introduced to soften the masculine palette. The central fireplace with a striking leather surround by Made Measure creates a distinct focal point with tan leather introducing warm hues to the room.

Because of the almost monochromatic interior scheme, the play on textures is a vital role in making this home an inviting one. You’ll notice the tactile nature of leather is a theme carried throughout the home, from tailored leather handles in the kitchen and study, to the leather-clad doors in the main bedroom.

The main bedroom is cloaked in delicate semi-sheer curtains to ensure privacy from the vast outdoors during all hours of the day. Although quite minimalist in styling, the combination of the soft flow of the curtains, the thick pile of the carpet and the gentle crinkle of the natural linen bedding, creates a calming environment for the perfect night’s sleep.

Through the industrial steel glass doors you’ll find the ensuite adorned in patterned tiles (in charcoal, of course). A double shower with a crisp white bathtub in its centre makes for the perfect lesson in symmetry; the zigzag of the tiles and lines of the shower recess all leading to the large floor-to-ceiling window, capturing the enviable view of the great outdoors.

A home that is truly unique, well done to the team at Canny.
