Loft Living

How To, Interior spaces

Loft Living

Think high ceilings, wide blank spaces and walls of glass – loft interiors can be tricky spaces to decorate, but when done well, can become a strikingly individual, comfortable home.

The trick? Well, take inspiration from the stand out loft interior designs below and follow these simple steps:

Divide and conquer – a loft space is characterized by open plan living, often one single space without separate rooms or dividers.  To create a home, separate your living, bed, kitchen and study spaces with clever furniture placement.   Use rugs to create a space within the space or to ground a setting, use furniture as dividing walls (such as a study desk placed against the back of the living room sofa) and leave breathing space between the furniture and the windows where possible.

OTT – with a large space like a loft, don’t be scared to play with proportion and go oversized.  Try a bookshelf that extends the entire height of the wall, large scale floor or hanging lighting, an eye catching piece of artwork on canvas or print.  This will fill your home with personality.

Soften up – if minimal or industrial is not your thing, soften the interior with sheer drapes by the windows, layered rugs, floor cushions for extra seating or even a feature clothes rack to drape your coat and scarf.

When in doubt, here are some gorgeous interiors to get your creative juices going:
