New Neutrals; Kitchens That Inspire

On trend for 2018, organic materials and contrasting light and dark finishes are what the kitchen is all about. With the kitchen the hub of the home, focus is on creating a showstopping space with a neutral palette and luxurious textures.

See a selection of some of my favourite kitchen interiors by Australia’s top interior designers including SJB Interiors, Arent & Pyke, Smart Design Studio, Coco Republic Interior Design, Handelsmann + Khaw and Alexander & Co. Adopting the use of luxurious neutrals to influence kitchen design in 2018.

Think organic materials; a heavy use of stone and marble is evident with detailed grain in splashbacks, plus stone or timber for flooring. A palette of various shades and timber can be elevated with luxe effects such as darkened metal tapware accents for drama. Clean lines are on point for 2018 with striking visuals in the use of materials alone.

Think mixed finishes and select textures and tones that complement and contrast. In the absence of colour, add wow factor in the juxtaposition of dark and light with white, blonde or dark cabinetry balancing a space. Bold, oversized pendant lights in dark frames are introduced to the kitchen.

Neutrals in the kitchen for 2018 are surprisingly bold, dramatic and all about visual theatre. The harmony of light vs dark radiates an aura of self awareness to leave an impression. I hope that leaves you a little inspired for the new year.
