On Trend: Bare Necessities

I’m falling more and more in love with a paired back, relaxed interior. Back to basics with raw textures and a light palette.

From Danish to contemporary Australian, the look is clean, minimalist and natural yet very welcoming. Think blonde timbers, even plywood finishes. Raw leathers that get better with age, the more marks and scratches the better. Jute, sisal and thick linens, textural yet smooth.

You’ll sense a common theme – light browns, beiges and woody colours. Blend these with white and grey for a harmonious palette throughout an entire home. I love this scheme paired with accents of blue or green in artwork. Plus lots of greenery!

Start with a light fabric sofa, style with pale timber surfaces in coffee tables and accent with metallic lighting. Accessorise with knitted throws and an abundance of cushions for the perfect living space.

In your dining area, select a blonde or whitewash timber table and add in beautifully upholstered dining chairs. Anchor with a luxe rug and accent with pendants and a striking artwork. An image of a natural landscape is on trend right now in a simple frame.

In the bedroom, I’d opt for a bedhead with a clean design in a neutral upholstery. Complement this with timber bedsides and brilliant white table lamps. I love an occasional chair in a spare corner – just another excuse for a throw rug and cushion. And a statement artwork will complete the room.

Bare necessities for a beautiful home. Tick.
