The Concrete Interior

The concrete interior. A contemporary minimalist designer’s dream.

There is simply no stopping the top tier status that grey has been enjoying over the past few years. Whilst concrete in interiors isn’t a new phenomenon, we can certainly appreciate it’s value now more than ever.

From architectural features including polished concrete floors to panelled concrete walls and even exposed-look concrete ceilings. From design elements such as concrete benchtops in both kitchens and bathrooms to steps on a floating staircase and fireplaces. Even decor is taking advantage of the timeless trend with pendant lights, planters and candle holders.

Concrete is slightly industrial and pairs perfectly with timbers of all stains from light blonde to darker styles. Black steel windows and doors enhance the industrial look further.

Matt Gibson is one Australian designer who has excelled in designing with concrete. Last year his project aptly titled Concrete House earned him the coveted Interior Designer of the Year at the 2015 Belle Coco Republic Awards.
