St Barts is a destination that has been on my hit list for a while and La Banane is on top for where I’d like to spend my time. Tropical days and a luxe bohemian coastal lifestyle.
La Banane is one of those retreats that makes you want to return every year. From vibrant colours, breezy beach accents, graphic tiles and mid-century furnishings, nothing’s amiss at this exclusive hideaway.
And yet, it’s the curated simplicity and undeniable intimate feel that really shines here. With only nine bungalows, La Banane is coveted not for its impressive grandeur flooded with tourists, but for its relaxed vibe that exudes cosiness. The surrounding dense tropical vegetation certainly helps for privacy too.
The sexy 1950’s style is more than just for decoration. The resort’s founder was the late Jean-Marie Riviere, a luminary of the Parisian cabaret world and frequently seen back in the day in the company of Zaza Gabor and Brigitte Bardot.
Many of the furniture pieces have been sourced from artisans in India and others are originals from the 1950s collected over time.
I couldn’t think anything better than lounging poolside to the sounds of flamenco one day and another, hitting the pool bar for a margarita after a day of sightseeing. See you in St Barts?
