White Out

Fields within the creative industry are always influencing each other, and I have always maintained that fashion and interior design are especially connected. Just recently we saw Men’s Fashion Week SS17 take the stage, and I’ve noticed a few similarities in trends between fashion and interiors from this season in particular.

One particular trend that stood out was the shining white suits that strutted down the catwalk of Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and Giorgio Armani (to name a few), exuding summer sophistication with European edge.

From the runway to the home. Take inspiration from the latest menswear trend, and incorporate this fresh elegant look in your home with these following three simple steps:

Do as fashion powerhouse Gucci has done, and include bright cheerful patterns alongside your home’s white ensemble. Consider decorating your white sofa setting with the Jonathan Adler Nixon Stripe Throw for a burst of colour, or an oversized colourful artwork as a feature piece.

If not done well, sometimes an all-white interior can come off looking uninviting and stark; using tone-on-tone whites within the space will help combat this and allow for a warmer aesthetic. Pair the ivory-coloured Jonathan Adler Malibu Sofa with the soft oyster-white velvet of the Jonathan Adler Astor Slipper Chair for a refined and sophisticated space that’s very Jill Sander.

Again, in order to combat a stark interior it’s important to incorporate variations in materials to help add visual interest amongst all of the white. Faux furs, velvets, and natural textures seen in timber and jute are my go-to’s, and will be sure to bring that elegant European look to your home.
