Wecome to the Americas: Papi Chulo Manly

Never one to shy away from a creative brief, Sydney based interior design firm Akin Creative have nailed it again.

Teaming up with restaurant kingpins, Merivale, Akin’s latest interior project is Papi Chulo – a Latin American inspired restaurant space that adds some much needed energy to Sydney’s Manly Wharf.

Combining beautiful finishes, detailed cabinetry and hidden design details everywhere you look, Papi Chulo is more than anything, just a bit of fun.  Most furniture pieces and lighting are custom made for the space, there’s marble tops in the open view kitchen, a copper detailed bar, pressed metal ceilings and vintage shutters sourced from Argentina.  The metal work in the space is a real show stopper, while the American Oak custom cabinetry including the joinery, tables, back bar and antiqued mirrors  finish the theme off perfectly, while not coming across too over the top or gimmicky.

The view isn’t bad on the eyes either – when the windows are flung wide the view of Middle Harbour is certainly a draw card especially if you’re planning a lunch time or later arvo.  Make sure you plan a trip with friends so you can really tuck into the menu – which includes flavours from the Deep South like BBQ ribs, lobster, Empanadas, and Smoked Hot Wings.  And don’t you dare leave there without trying the warm chocolate chip cookie for desert.
