L’Americano Espresso Bar, Alexandria

I’m excited to reveal Coco Republic’s first hospitality offering with the opening of L’Americano Espresso Bar – a welcome addition to the Sydney coffee scene.

Set in our flagship Alexandria showroom, L’Americano transports guests to the Italian Riviera with a character filled interior, artisanal coffee by Vittoria Coffee and an inspired menu by Executive Chef Alex Kearns.

L’Americano combines Coco Republic’s signature American design aesthetic and Vittoria Coffee’s rich Italian heritage. The café draws inspiration from the 1955 novel The Talented Mr Ripley and the character of Dickie Greenleaf, errant son of the American shipping magnate Herbert Greenleaf.

A life of opulent bachelorism on the Italian coast sets the scene. L’Americano exudes the old world charm of a 1950’s Italian espresso bar on the Riviera that an American playboy, with a lust for the finer things in life, would frequent.

It is a dream to see L’Americano come to life. L’Americano excites the senses – from baristas trained in the art of coffee to inspirational décor that makes you want to come back, time and time again.

L’Americano’s Executive Chef, Alex Kearns of the acclaimed Glebe Point Diner, has created a breakfast and lunch menu with a classic yet contemporary focus. Offering fine restaurant dining in an Espresso Bar setting, the menu features a beautiful, relaxed Italian style – a welcome point of difference on the Sydney food scene.

L’Americano celebrates the artisan food heritage of the Italian Riviera with a Crostini Bar and Salad Bar offering fresh ingredients including pancetta, figs, burrata and kingfish together with organic breads. Classic Italian dishes entice the palate with the full menu available on the go and dining in, including organic eggs for breakfast and a selection of fresh and toasted paninis for lunch. One of my favourites is the signature L’Americano Salad with local produce – pancetta, figs, feta and more.

Serving Vittoria Coffee’s premium blend, L’Americano is equipped with a Faema Legend E61 machine, modelled on one of the world’s most influential coffee machines of all time. With an original stainless steel design made in Milan, the iconic Legend E61 produces an enhanced experience for the coffee enthusiast.

The Italian Riviera is central to the interiors scheme with nautical references reflected in the design, finishes and decor, conceptualised by Coco Republic and designed in consultation with Alexander & Co.

A highlight, we commissioned 30 Chris Craft Italian Riva Boats for the interior; petite high-powered leisure boats, easily identified by antique watercraft enthusiasts. The mahogany masterpieces are a showcase, complementing gold and timber accents in the serveware and handcrafted ceramics.

If I’m not in the office, you’ll find me with a coffee and copy of La Figaro at L’Americano.
