Square Detail: Moroccan Zellige

Tiles are a fantastic way to update any space; from the bathroom to the kitchen, a great feature tile can come a long way, incorporating pattern and colour into an interior. After years and years of seeing glossy subway and hexagonal-shaped tiles perhaps it’s time for a difference, which is where the stunning Zellige tile comes in to play…

The Moroccan Zellige are terra cotta tiles that have been covered with enamel, often moulded into a square, subway or scallop form. In true Moroccan spirit, the tiles come in all sorts of colourful hues that will be sure to create a statement without being over-the-top. The pearlescent gloss of the Zellige tile, along with its undulating surface, means these tiles lend the perfect balance of simplicity and glamour.

The tiles look fantastic in bold, vibrant colours: an emerald green really pops against black kitchen cabinetry; a light sea green will add a tranquil spa-like feel to a bathroom. Even in a monochromatic space, the tiles still have that wow-factor, so don’t feel as though you have to go bold with Zellige. Take a look through the gallery for inspiration as to how you’d use this tile in your home.
