Musling Restaurant, Copenhagen

I don’t know if it’s because of my love for a monochromatic masculine space, but the Musling Restaurant in Copenhagen, Denmark, has really caught my eye. Local design firm Space Copenhagen has done it again with this simple yet refined interior that exudes luxury, offering a warm and intimate establishment in the trendy Danish capital.

An honest materials palette of tan leather, timber, and burnished steel was carefully chosen for Musling by Space Copenhagen to reflect the restaurant’s surrounding area, the Torvehallerne open food market. The pigmented plaster walls add a sense of softness to the space with an almost raw and rustic appeal.

A stained timber floor contrasts against the smoothness of the dark charcoal-coloured burnished steel bar that commands most of the attention, filling up one whole side of the establishment. High burnished-steel tables and sleek minimalist barstools sit opposite the bar on one end of the establishment, creating a more relaxed drinking environment distanced from the main dining area.

Pendant lights encased in crumpled paper shades disperse soft light against the deep stain of the timber bulkhead hovering above the bar to create warmth in contrast of the cool sleekness of the burnished steel bar. The clever use of the bulkhead creates a subtle distinction between the bar area and the rest of the dining area without disrupting the cohesion of the space.
